Making sustainable living choices may vary from family to family given available solutions or circumstances. For us, each member of my family has their own motivation for using the Don’t Throw Me (DTM) Marketplace.
My kids use DTM to make extra money, find deals, and to keep things out of landfills. An unexpected benefit that we have noticed is that they take better care of their belongings because they want to trade them in the future.
Apart from the obvious environmental benefits, second hand trading for me is a way to find unique treasures. I enjoy the thrill of hunting for one-of-a-kind items that add character and style to my wardrobe and my home. I really believe that you don’t have to sacrifice style or quality to make sustainable choices.
We as a family have made it a habit to always search for second hand before buying anything new. Sourcing second hand also provides an opportunity to teach our kids about the value of money and how to practice social responsibility in their daily lives. They learn simply from watching us and observing that every action counts.
We all love “Swap & Donate” on DTM where you can donate a portion of the proceeds to a charitable cause.
It is a reminder that we can each help by using the resources we already have. It’s great for our wallets, our environment, our community and just makes sense.
