I am a Don't Throw Me seller but I am also one of the co-founder.  I have always purchased secondhand goods. However, until we launched this platform, I had never ventured into selling my underused household items. My usual approach was to give them away.

The Reluctance to Sell

For a long time, I hesitated selling; the main barrier? Privacy. I’m not an active participant on most social media platforms, and I prefer not to expose my personal information in public forums. DTM, however, has changed that, while my catalogue of items is visible to the public, my personal information remains private. Communication is kept secure between me and the buyer.  When an item is added to a cart, it’s marked as “on hold,” and once purchased, it disappears from the platform. This system ensures that buyers know exactly what’s available at all times without exposing the seller or who else is also interested in the item. This transparency is a game changer for me.

Supporting Charities and Flexible Transactions

Another reason I love selling on DTM is the opportunity to support charities. Through our "swap and donate" feature, I can easily contribute to causes I care about while decluttering my home. I often utilize all transaction types available on the platform. Swapping was a fantastic option even before I registered for Stripe—our payment vendor.

I understand that some users may hesitate to register for Stripe, but I value the security of my personal financial information. The registration process for Stripe took about ten minutes and required a little prep work, but once I was set up, it was smooth sailing.

A Safe and Secure Selling Experience

Selling secondhand items shouldn’t leave you feeling exposed or vulnerable. At DTM, our mission is to create a marketplace where participants can trade openly without compromising their privacy or security.

Whether you're looking to declutter, make some extra cash, or support a charity, DTM makes it easy and secure to sell your unwanted household items.
